Nevis Tourism Authority's successful week of promotions in London

The Deputy Premier of Nevis and Minister of Tourism in the Nevis Island Administration, The Hon Mark Brantley, CEO of Nevis Tourism Authority, Greg Phillip and Sales and Marketing Manager UK and Europe, Julie Claxton meet with UK contacts in London to consolidate relationships.

[LONDON – 21st March 2017]

The Nevis Tourism Authority (NTA) came to London last week for what proved to be a productive and enlightening week.

On Monday 13th March, the NTA and St Kitts Tourism Authority joined forces and attended the 16th Annual Unite Caribbean event. The original and well-established 'one-stop-shop' event for UK and European based tour operators to hold informal, pre-booked, one-to-one meetings with tourist boards, hoteliers, representation companies, airlines, ground handlers and car hire companies from the Caribbean region.

The day was filled with several short meetings from 9:00am till 5:00pm which were set up to consolidate relationships with tour operators that already have a strong relationship with the destination, as well as being introduced to new ones.

Additionally, the CEO of the NTA, Greg Phillip, and the Minister of Tourism had one-to-one meetings with various media including The Independent, Robb Report and Conde Nast Traveller at Soho House, London. Those meetings allowed more in-depth conversations with key publications for tourism in the UK.

On their second day in London, the NTA representatives met with one of the top airline partners that sell the destination in the UK, which has been offering Nevis as a destination for a long time. The meeting allowed a more personalised review of their Nevis offering and subsequently should create more bookings to the destination.

On Wednesday, the NTA had a follow-up meeting with the largest provider of Nevis bookings to the UK - to further discuss opportunities on the island. Nevis also met with further tour operators in the UK, to develop additional tourism sales opportunities.

In the evening, the NTA attended the Premiere of “Time Detective: Who is Philippa?”, a film inspired by Dr June Goodfield’s book “Rivers of Time”, which was filmed in both Nevis and the UK.

The event was attended by dignitaries of Nevis, including The Hon Vance Amory, Premier of Nevis and The Hon Mark Brantley, Deputy Premier of Nevis and Minister of the Nevis Island Administration as well as friends of Nevis. The evening was a success with all 150 who attended having an enjoyable time learning about the incredible journey of Dr June Goodfield as well as sharing their own various experiences on the secluded island of Nevis.

Thursday morning saw the NTA and hotels from Nevis attending an event organised by Caribtours. Alongside the NTA (who represented the Four Seasons Resort and Montpelier), were representatives from Nisbet Plantation and Paradise Beach Club who updated Caribtours with the latest news from the resorts.

A competition was run during the meeting and Francis Wilkinson, Finance Director, won a 5 nights stay at Montpelier Plantation & Beach.

In the afternoon, the same group attended a training session as guests of ITC Luxury Travel, followed by a formal dinner at La Sala Restaurant. This was an important element of the trip for the NTA as having travel agents well trained and up to date is vital when promoting the island.

A competition took place during that event too. Whitney Allen, from Spalding Travel, won a 7 nights stay to be shared between Nisbet Plantation & Beach & Four Seasons Resort, while Viv Townsend, from Cannon Travel, was the lucky winner of a 4 nights stay at Montpelier Plantation & Beach. Karen Booth, from Adore Holidays, took a bottle of Champagne from Paradise Beach home.

On its final day in London, the NTA hosted a lunch to present the island and upcoming events to new media contacts.

Taking place at Aveqia, St Paul’s, the lunch was led by renowned Chef Judy Joo, who will be one of the celebrity chefs headlining the Nevis Mango and Food festival which will take place between 6th-9th July 2017. The festival, a celebration of mangoes, is expected to be covered by uk press highlighting the rich offering of fresh and wholemeal food on Nevis.

A gathering of 20 hand-picked media representatives from prestigious titles such as The Times, The Sun, Wired, Spears and BBC Travel were treated with a Nevis-inspired meal while Greg Phillip and Julie Claxton presented the destination and developed new bonds. We hope to welcome these journalists on the island very soon.

CEO of the NTA, Greg Phillip says: "Nevis' success and awareness among travelers and the travel trade in the UK continues to grow, and our activities during this promotional week has proven to be a valuable source of support and fruitful collaboration for our stakeholders and travel partners."

The week spent in the UK developing relationships will no doubt help drive more sales and visitors to Nevis in the upcoming months.
