Hermitage Plantation Inn

The Hermitage Plantation Inn upholds the proud tradition of fine Caribbean hospitality. It is more than one of the oldest hotels on Nevis, it is, in fact, one of the oldest wooden houses in the entire Caribbean.

The great house was built around 1660 and period furnishings, such as antique china and rugs, still decorate it today. But this old house has discrete modern touches like music from MP3 players and wi-fi.

There are 15 pastel-painted, timber-framed cottages in the sloping garden which is peppered with mango and tamarind trees, and massive rocks that have been there for centuries.

Each cottage has a four poster bed, luxury bath and personal verandas with hammocks. Comfort privacy and charm are the watchwords of this quiet boutique hotel that hovers 800 feet above sea level at the base of Nevis Peak.

The gourmet restaurant specialises in local ingredients and local recipes, and its kitchen is the only one on the island to have a traditional wood burning oven. Hermitage specialities are renowned on Nevis.

Peaceful, serene and with a capacity for only 36 guests, the Hermitage Plantation Inn is never crowded.

Facilities: Bar, gourmet restaurant, swimming pool, sun terrace, tennis, horseback riding, tropical gardens, and boutique. Nearby: golf, beaches, non-motorized water sports such as sailing, windsurfing, fishing, diving and snorkelling, nature hikes and history walks.
