Island of Sport

Nevis is a relaxing island but it's also an island of sport. There are lots of events and activities for visitors to try or to enjoy as keen spectators.

It takes place in September on a testing course that’s an imaginative combination of challenging hills and flatter terrain that gives an opportunity for speed.

It’s not Ascot or the Kentucky Derby. There are no starting gates and the track isn’t manicured but no other race course in the world has a backdrop of blue sea and a dormant volcano.

Competitive fishing on the island culminates in the Annual fishing tournament which takes place every October. Each year about 30 boats loaded with fishermen from the Leeward islands come to Nevis to take part making this a hugely popular event.

The annual Nevis to St Kitts Cross Channel Swim is the perfect challenge for swimmers of all abilities. Swim across the 4km (2.5 miles) 'Narrows' between the two sister islands, in a truly unique experience!

Perhaps an unusual sport for a small Caribbean island but drag racing is taken seriously here. Nevis has its own purpose-built and dedicated drag racing track.

This is a flagship sporting event on Nevis which happens in November every year.
